On August 28, 2020 at 1:30 p.m., TXOGA’s Executive Director for the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable (STEER) Stephanie Moreno joined Author Jo Ann Stiles as they presented Anthony F. Lucas and Spindletop: Savant Oil Drilling and Breathtaking Change in Texas. The presentation was featured as part of the Witte Museum’s Conference on Texas: On Resilience Past, Present, and Future. The two day event also featured the 9th Annual Texas Trailblazers Awards in partnership with Texas Monthly.
The discussion, moderated by Howard Energy Mexico President, Brandon Seale, highlighted the resiliency of the Texas oil and natural gas industry and the industry’s ability to adapt over the last century. Jo Ann Stiles, co- author of Giant Under the Hill: A History of the Spindletop Discovery, discussed the history of the industry and how innovation allowed the Spindletop discovery in 1901 to set the stage for the strong economy Texas enjoys today. STEER ED Stephanie Moreno discussed the record breaking year Texas experienced in 2019, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how the industry’s continued innovation provides the building blocks for a strong economic recovery in Texas and around the world.
