The protection, preservation and health of the environment, communities and individuals are a top priority in the oil and natural gas industry in South Texas. The oil and natural gas industry is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the United States and is subject to federal, state and local regulations that oversee all aspects of the industry.
Federal acts overseeing the industry include the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, The National Environmental Policy Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Emergency Planning & Community Right-to-Know Act.
These federal acts are complemented by additional regulations and governance from state regulatory agencies such as the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
